Life Trockenrasen: Project goals

Project goals

Due to a lack of agricultural activities such as sheep grazing or mowing, dry grasslands are among the most endangered habitats in Germany. Brandenburg has a special responsibility for these areas in the EU’s Natura 2000 protected areas network. With its EU LIFE project, the NaturSchutzFonds foundation is supporting the development, conservation and restoration of dry habitats in Natura 2000 areas.

Goals

  • restore dry grassland areas in 29 Natura 2000 sites and improve their conservation status,
  • restore the only occurrence of Jurinea cyanoides in a Natura 2000 site in Brandenburg and improve its conservation status
  • restore and stabilise the population of value-determining plant species in isolated locations,
  • create the conditions for a system of stable land in the medium-term,
  • minimise the negative impacts of tourism in Natura 2000 areas,
  • make the experiences and results of the restoration of dry habitats accessible to the public.

Das Projekt LIFE Trockenrasen
