Life Trockenrasen: EN

LIFE Trockenrasen

The LIFE Trockenrasen (engl.: dry grasslands) project , running from 2019 to 2026, aims to restore and preserve valuable dry grasslands on 29 Natura 2000 sites in seven districts in the federal state of Brandenburg. Open landscapes characterised by a low water supply, such as dry grasslands, dunes and heathlands, are typical for Brandenburg. The plants and animals living here are specialists for dry and warm conditions.

LIFE Trockenrasen centers around the priority habitat types 6120 (xeric sand calcareous grasslands) and 6240 (sub-pannonic steppic grasslands) as well as the priority plant species Jurinea cyanoides.

Some of the typical species of these dry grasslands, such as the small pasqueflower (Pulsatilla pratensis), Astragalus arenarius and the fastigiate gypsophila (Gypsophila fastigiata) have become very rare and only individual specimens thrive today. Regularly grazing animals, which keep the landscape open and prevent forest succession, are often lacking. By establishing and expanding permanent usage, dry grassland areas are preserved in the long-term as part of the project. Among other things, we provide support for the initial use of wasteland.

Das Projekt LIFE Trockenrasen
